Curating and Annotating Your Primary Sources

1. Click here to access DESTINY.
2. LOG IN using the button in the upper right corner. Your username and password matches your Chromebook log-in.
3.  Access COLLECTIONS using the "pancake stack" menu on the left hand side.

When you are ready annotate your source, remember that your job is to tell WHY the source helps you BETTER UNDERSTAND how your family was impacted by war.

To formulate a GREAT annotation:

1. Give a one - two sentence summary of the primary source that includes the media type, the origin, and the content.
Check out my sample:  This black and white photograph called "Migrant Mother" is of a mother and her children. It was
taken by Dorothea Lange in 1936, and is one of the most famous images of the Great Depression.

2.  Give a two-three sentence explanation of what you learned from this artifact OR how you interpret this artifact.
Check out my sample: This image really helped me understand how difficult it was to be a parent during the Great Depression. People wanted what was best for their kids, but it is hard to take care of children without jobs, money, or access to basic necessities. The children in the picture seem dirty and disheveled. You can also tell that the mother in this picture is worried - her forehead is wrinkled up and her gaze makes her seem distracted from her current reality.

3. Give a one-two sentence explanation of how you will use this primary source to help your audience understand your experiences.
Check out my sample: I need my classmates to understand the sacrifices my great-grandma had to make during the Great Depression. This picture will perfectly the compliment the part of the interview where she told me about having to scrounge for food for her kids.
