The WeAre204 List consists of 12 books that were selected by representatives from Waubonsie Valley, Metea Valley, and Nequa Valley High Schools. The list will be promoted in all three buildings all year. The purpose of this reading program is to celebrate the varied stories, lifestyles, experiences, and backgrounds of the 204 high school community.
Each year, a panel of Illinois high school librarians, teachers, public librarians and students determines the Abraham Lincoln Award Nominee List. The list contains adult and young adult fiction and nonfiction titles nominated by teachers, students, and librarians during the previous school year. The nominations list is then further vetted by the nominations committee. While the popularity of a particular title is important, the overall quality of the work is of primary importance. This program encourages teens to read for pleasure and to become lifelong readers. Named after former President Abraham Lincoln, an avid reader and noted author, the Lincoln Award is sponsored by AISLE (Association of Illinois School Library Educators) and administered by the steering committee.

Let's have a little fun and see which list is more popular among staff and students this year! Any time you read a book from one of the two lists, stop by the LMC for a book review slip and raffle ticket. Fill out the slip to tell us what you read and give it a "starred review" Your slip will go into a drawing for some awesome prizes. In March, we will have a bracket-style showdown between the two lists before we finally arrive on a "Waubonsie Book of the Year" title. Keep an eye out on the announcements and in the LMC for special events and additional contests around these two lists.
